What is Procrastination ?

Procrastination is the practice of postponing things or doing less urgent tasks in order to prioritize more urgent tasks. It's also the habit of doing nice things for less-than-interesting people only to find that they've put off impending work until later or even at the "last minute". Procrastination is the opposite of ideal productivity.

Production is pulling and working forward to get the job done while procrastination is getting the work done for tomorrow, next week or maybe never.

This habit or habits can put your life to shame. There are even cases where some people curse themselves for their laziness, their inability to focus on the important tasks at hand, and their tendency to be more easily gratified in the immediate and easy way.

Procrastination sometimes comes with a good reason and this is where procrastination is a time spent figuring things out and planning future actions.

The upside of procrastination is that it allows people enough time to work through complex problems and generate ideas. There is no denying that there are some truly unavoidable circumstances where individuals must adopt the habit of procrastination.

But when it becomes an alarming habit and begins to negatively affect your life, procrastination must be stopped at all costs. Knowing the basics of procrastination is not enough.

For individuals to better understand, they need to know exactly 6 reasons why they procrastinate. People procrastinate for the following common reasons:

  1.  Lack of motivation

  2.  Lack of interest

  3.  Lack of skills

  4.  Fear of success and failure

  5.  Stress

  6.  Laziness

  7.  Lack of discipline

  8.  Lack of skills

  9.  Perfectionism

reasons people delay and permanently give in to the negative consequences if not treated properly.

Other reasons people lack ideas or knowledge of what really needs to be done, unwillingness to do something, disinterest in whether something is done or not, lack of humor or take the initiative to start things and more.

The negative effects brought about by this habit are given so there is no good reason for you to get stuck in this habit. The good thing is that there are countless ways to overcome and conquer procrastination.  Individuals simply need to make an effort to embrace these means and put them to work.

In addition to learning the basics of procrastination and knowing why people procrastinate, there are even more powerful ways to overcome procrastination. Possible and effective ways include changing your procrastination environment, creating a timeline, inspiring, breaking larger tasks into manageable chunks, and the list goes on.
